In 2006, I scanned several of the books that Mrs. Mary Ann Holland had compiled with photos and clippings about Clayton's history, the school, and the residents through the 20th century. I wanted to digitally preserve her work, and now I am trying to slowly go through all of these images to crop, transcribe, and restore them as I had intended to do years ago. If you'd like to see occasional posts about Clayton history from her books, you may follow my progress on this Facebook page. Until then, I put the original scanned images in albums on Google Photos so that others can browse them easily:
- Clayton History
- Clayton School
- Clayton Notebook
- Clayton Photos (these are scans of negatives including some photos found her the books)
Mrs. Mary Ann loved to show her books to anyone who was interested. My aunt Carolyn Duke said that her mother would be thrilled that people are still enjoying her books today and encouraged me to share them. At one time, there were copies of these books in the Old Jail Library & Museum operated by the Panola County Historical & Genealogical Association.
Please don't copy and redistribute these images as your own, but you are welcome to use and crop individual photos and obituaries for your own genealogy research.
